While camera phones can’t quite match the capabilities of high-end mirrorless or DSLR cameras, they’ve come a long way in recent years. Many modern smartphones now feature multiple sensors, including ultra-wide, telephoto, and macro lenses, allowing you to capture a wide range of shots with ease. Additionally, advanced camera software allows for features like portrait mode and night mode, making it easier than ever to capture stunning photos in any lighting situation.
List of best camera phones 2023
- Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Samsung’s latest flagship excels in all areas, yet its camera remains the star of the show. Four lenses are on the back of this one, including a lead sensor with an incredible 200MP resolution. Alongside it are two 10MP telephoto sensors for 3x and 10x periscope shots, while the entire package is rounded out with a 12MP ultrawide lens.
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
While features like the new titanium body and A17 Pro processor make both the Pro and Pro Max exciting phones, it’s the larger model that keen photographers should look toward. It shares the same 48-megapixel main camera as the standard Pro, but its telephoto lens gets a significant bump to 5x over the base Pro’s 3x. It might not seem like much of a step up, but that extra zoom will help you find more interesting compositions in scenes out of reach of smaller zooms.
- Google Pixel 7 Pro
It has impressed us in a number of ways from its slick new design to its extremely user-friendly software. But it’s the camera that’s really stood out, with the Pixel 7 Pro delivering superb shots in a variety of conditions. Its main sensor captures shots with superb dynamic range and vibrant colors while its 5x optical zoom gives extra reach than the iPhone 14 Pro is able to manage.
- OnePlus 11
The OnePlus 11 camera has been optimized through a partnership with Hasselblad. The 50-megapixel main camera, 48MP wide-angle lens, and 32MP Portrait Tele camera have all been enhanced for better performance. The main Sony IMX890 sensor boasts both optical and electronic image stabilization, while the wide-angle lens provides a 115-degree field of view. Additionally, a 13-channel Accu-spectrum Light Color Identifier sensor ensures precise color reproduction in photos.
- Vivo x90 pro
The camera. Vivo and German photography expert Zeiss collaborated closely to create the camera system. You’ll find these cameras on the back: Sony’s excellent 50MP IMX989 with a 1-inch big sensor, another 50MP IMX758 portrait lens that offers a 2x optical zoom compared to the primary one, and a 12MP wide-angle camera. On the front, you’ll find a 32MP selfie shooter in a centered punch hole. However, in contrast to the X80 Pro, the phone doesn’t offer a periscope camera or any zoom camera beyond 2x.
- Xiaomi 13 Pro
The main camera is joined by a versatile setup consisting of a 50MP 75mm telephoto lens and a 50MP wide-angle. All three cameras are co-engineered with Leica and have Leica lenses on them, with Xiaomi also working with the renowned camera company in the software department.
- Oppo Find X5 Pro
It starts with a 50MP Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor, which left us mighty impressed with its performance on the Xiaomi 13 Pro. Oppo combined it with a “High Transparency Lens Module” to reduce light scattering and lens flares without sacrificing the ability to absorb light. If it’s capable of anything similar to Xiaomi’s DSLR-esque prowess, the Find X6 Pro could blow the bulk of the competition out of the water. If we’re following Oppo’s logic here, the second “main” camera — the ultra-wide lens — uses a 1/1.56-inch IMX890 f/2.2 sensor to capture photos with a 110° native field of view.
